But sacrifice always seems like a necessity. I was curious, however, whether wearing underwear to work was actually a non-negotiable one. Maria Sophocles, MD, an OB / GYN at Princeton Gynecology who works with gynecological concerns for athletes such as Ballerinas and the national women’s rowing team. But it’s really a matter of comfort.
“Underwear is a good barrier,” said Dr. Sophocles says 6 “Some workout wear has seams that can tear different parts of the body. So in general, I suggest you wear underwear. “But more than that, Dr. Sophocles insisted that whether you wear it or go to the commando, the most important thing in maintaining good vaginal health and practicing is to let your woman sweat. Most people may not think the vagina is um, sweaty, but there are sweat glands in the labia majora. So when you exercise, sweat comes out of your vagina. Dr. Sophocles did not give a specific time that wearing wet bottoms is okay, but he did say change your underwear (or leggings if you go commando if you go to the gym or studio). He suggests throwing any extra pair of undies in your purse for this purpose.
And choosing the right pair is also important. Dr. Sophocles recommends opting for sweating to reduce the amount of moisture accumulation around your vagina. Here are four different style options.
