In celebration of the proud month, Fitbit is highlighting top mental health resources that are helping to make a real difference in the LGBTQIA + and BIPOC communities. We are excited to share these resources with you.
The events of the past few years have brought mental health to the national spotlight and highlighted the need for more care. When there are calls to address crises around the world (and resource initiatives have been launched there), it is important for them to provide specific assistance.
Finding emotional support for this joint trauma process is crucial. And yet, many BIPOC and LGBTQIA + people have not received the help they really need. Fortunately, that change is beginning.
Here at Fitbit, we know that having the right resources at your fingertips can make all the difference বিশেষ especially when it comes to your mental and emotional well-being.
So, we’ve compiled the top 10 mental health resources for LGBTQIA + people of color so you don’t have to! These incredible companies are working hard to change the narrative when it comes to BIPOC and LGBTQIA + mental health.
“Mental health does not discriminate,” said Dr. Dana Cunningham, co-founder of Black Mental Wellness, a DC-based organization focused on stigmatizing mental health in black communities. He goes on to say that he is optimistic that mental health will one day become so normal that it will become a regular part of our country’s healthcare system. “Mental health checkups are just as important as the annual physical checkups each year.”

Boris Lawrence Henson Foundation. This nonprofit provides the black community with the resources they need to help break the silence and stigma surrounding free resources, connections and mental health. The Boris Lawrence Henson Foundation was founded by actor and socialite Taraji P. Henson, who named the organization after his father. Henson hopes to encourage black people to share their mental health challenges and inspire others to get the help they need.
Their mission: To help people find their peace and well-being and, above all, choose joy over everything.
Black mental well-being. Four black psychologists lead Black Mental Wellness, which provides resources, insights and tools about mental and behavioral health from a black perspective. They also aim to increase the visibility and recognition of black mental health professionals by offering resources such as mentorships, ambassadorships and training. Their next conference, Heal + Liberate, November 5, 2022.
Their mission: “One of our goals is to acknowledge mental health issues and reduce stigma when it comes to speaking,” Dr. Cunningham said. “Historically, this has been a major obstacle within the black community, and we are very passionate about change.”
Brick Gates Better Project. This non-profit organization started its global movement to celebrate LGBTQIA + youth a decade ago and it is still going strong. It reaches millions of young people each year through its media programming, educational resources, social presence and community-based service providers.
Their mission: To promote, empower and connect LGBTQIA + youth around the world.
Therapy for black girls. Founded by Dr. Joy Bradford, Therapy for Black Girls is an online community dedicated to helping black women prioritize their mental health. Their website includes tips for a simple therapist finder with both office and virtual options, a blog related to mental wellness issues and how to manage them, and a weekly podcast where Dr. Joy chats on all aspects of mental health, personal development. , And more
Their mission: To make mental health issues more relevant and accessible for black women and girls.
Therapy for black men. When it comes to mental health, black men and boys face unique challenges and stigmas. Therapy for black men creates a dedicated space where they can get help to choose from more than 70 licensed mental health professionals. Their mission: To remove stigma and make it easier for black men to find the help they deserve.
Trans Lifeline. A grassroots hotline and nonprofit, Trans Lifeline provides emotional and financial support to trans people in crisis. Managed by the trans community, for the trans community.
Their mission: Connecting with support and resources for the survival and improvement of trans people.

Or, listen to their bilingual weekly podcast to see if their services are right for you. They cover all kinds of mental health issues related to Latinas, Latinos, and Latinx individuals. It’s a must listen.
Their mission: Degrading the mental health of the Latin community.
National Courier and Trans Therapist of Color. This healing organization is at the core of social justice and liberation and was created for people of diverse and trans color. They provide resources to help people recover from trauma, violence and systemic oppression.
Their mission: Committed to transforming mental health for people of color and trans color through community building and practitioner development.
Liberate Meditation App. There is a new meditation app to add to your list. With over 250 meditations to choose from, each recording was conducted by a BIPOC teacher. Liberate is designed to support blacks on their healing path. Keeping room for everything from anxiety and frustration to internal racism and petty aggression, their resources can help you navigate through them.
Their mission: To move towards a future where BIPOC individuals can feel completely and utterly at ease without fear of danger or persecution.
Trevor Project. You’ve probably heard of the Trevor Project. It is the world’s largest suicide prevention and crisis intervention agency for LGBTQIA + youth. The Trevor Project has saved the lives of countless young people through their Crisis Service Hotline (available 24/7), a peer support community, research, public education, and advocacy programs that are offered across the country.
Their mission: To build a safer, more inclusive world — where all LGBTQIA + youth see a brighter future for themselves.
