This yoga flow for the buttocks hit the hip flexibility trifecta

Yoga teachers like to say that the buttocks contain a lot of emotion — and right now, you may be feeling more than usual. While stretching your body may not solve all the problems in the world, it can help you hold on to a little self-care during difficult times. So in this week’s episode Instructor of the monthPalin Anis, a yoga instructor and mirror instructor, takes you through a stream to help you go deeper into your buttocks from every angle.

Your buttocks consist of two ball-and-socket type joints (one on each side), and they can move in three ways: back and forth (flex and stretch), sideways and towards the pelvis (abduction) and adductor, and rotating as you The toes point in different directions. In this 17-minute session, you will work your flexibility in each of these aspects to relieve tension from all sides.

At the top of the class, Anis calls the sequence a “fun, funny flow,” and it’s the best way to describe the movements you make today. Before the class fully survives on its name, you’ll start by warming the body with a gentle variation of cat-cow pose and mini-sun salutation: “Hip hip hurray.”

Once it’s time to move on to the hip opening, Anis will instruct you to move in a lizard posture (lifting ritual) and move your hips around to get to that bend and extension of the joint. Then, you will challenge your abduction and addiction by drawing large circles with your knees in a cat-cow pose, one by one. And finally, you move your toes to challenge the flexibility of your rotating buttocks in a goddess posture or at the elbow angle.

But hey, even if you pay zero attention to what kind of flexibility you are increasing at a particular moment, this hip-centric flow will still look amazing. So don’t think too much of things (there’s plenty of time for that when you’re not on your yoga mat). For now, take any props you like and let Anis pick you up from there.
